Midway of Another Day

artwork by Michael Grothusen

Midway of Another Day, commission by Eastern State Penitentiary, a historic prison museum in Philadelphia.  It also uses sunlight and shadow to measure the passage of time. Throughout the day the shadow creeps across the inside of the bowl (evoking phases of the moon). Not clearly visible in the image are lines that I have drawn indicating specific times of the day and of the year, high noon on the summer solstice for example.
